Ghana Education Service Releases 2025/2026 Academic Calendar, First Term Begins September 2

The Ghana Education Service has released the academic calendar for the 2025/2026 academic year.
The calendar outlined key dates for Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools across the country.

In a statement, it noted that the first term would begin on September 2, 2025, and end on December 18, 2025. The vacation will run until January 7, 2026.
The second term is set to commence on January 8, 2026 and conclude on April 1, 2026, with a vacation period from April 2 to April 20, 2026.
The third term will then begin on April 21, 2026 and end on July 23, 2026, followed by the academic year’s final vacation.

Date for the 2026 BECE confirmed
The calendar also noted that the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has been scheduled to take place from May 4 to May 11, 2026.
There will also be a two-day mid-term break in each term.
The service urged all stakeholders to take note of the calendar and prepare adequately for a smooth and productive academic year.
The statement by the GES has been widely shared on social media.
Government pays special school feeding grant arrears
Back in June, the government paid the outstanding feeding grants owed to special needs schools across the country.
An amount of GH¢8,989,866 was released towards the feeding grants for all learners in the special needs schools.
According to a press release issued by the Ghana Education Service, the disbursement demonstrated the government’s continued commitment to inclusive education and the well-being of learners with special needs.
“Management of the GES acknowledges and appreciates the patience, resilience, and dedication of all heads, staff, and learners with special needs. We also commend the government for prioritising special needs education. The GES remains committed to collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure equitable and quality education for every learner, regardless of ability."
This move came as a relief to these institutions, which have been struggling to provide adequate care and nutrition to their students due to financial constraints.
The development is expected to bring much-needed respite to these schools, enabling them to focus on providing quality education and support to their students.
GES addresses salary challenges for picketing teachers
Earlier, YEN.com.gh also reported that the Ghana Education Service had addressed concerns from newly posted teachers demanding unpaid salaries after protests.
In a statement, the GES explained that the delays were due to expired financial clearance, which was being processed through funds provided in the 2025 Budget.
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu also engaged with a group of university graduate teachers who demonstrated outside the Ministry of Education on May 7, 2025.
