A Ghanaian man who claimed to have facilitated Daddy Lumba’s first-ever trip abroad has expressed disappointment in the legendary singer.

Lumba, widely recognised as Ghana’s greatest ever artist, was reported dead on Saturday, June 26, 2025, at the age of 60.

He reportedly fell ill at his home in East Legon and was transported to the Bank Hospital in Cantonments for treatment.

The singer reportedly passed away at the hospital, leaving his family devastated.

News of his death was confirmed via a family statement that underlined the weight of the legacy the musician left behind.

Man claims he helped Lumba travel abroad

After graduating from high school, Daddy Lumba travelled to Germany, where he met Nana Acheampong and kickstarted his legendary career.

In a TikTok video seen by YEN.com.gh, an elderly man, Mr Bonnah, said he was the one who facilitated the trip abroad for the singer.

He stated that he met Lumba’s then-girlfriend, Theresa Abebrese, who sheltered him with an umbrella during rainfall.

Bonnah said he offered to help her by sending her abroad, but she asked him to help her boyfriend instead.

He said he helped Lumba travel abroad, but after his career took off, he was never acknowledged by the artist.

Daddy Lumba has openly spoken about the role Theresa Abebrese, his first girlfriend, played in his career.

Daddy Lumba’s candlelight vigil announced

Previously, YEN.com.gh reported that a vigil to honour Daddy Lumba has been planned following his unexpected death.

The Creative Arts Agency announced that the candlelight vigil will be held on August 2, 2025, at the Independence (Black Star) Square in Accra.

The event would commence from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM and is open to the general public, who are encouraged to attend to join in mourning the passing of the legend.
