On Thursday, August 21, 2025, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) saw an upheaval at its headquarters in Accra. Fans stormed the security premises in their numbers following the news that Shatta Wale had been detained the night prior.

Shatta Wale was detained in connection with several criminal investigations, with detectives probing his alleged involvement in money laundering and tax evasion.

Before he was detained, EOCO confiscated Shatta Wale's 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which has been linked to an FBI case in which Shatta Wale and a former officer of the National Signals Bureau are persons of interest.
