UDS Computer Science Student Sentenced to Death After Killing Fellow Student Over a Woman

A Computer Science student of the University for Development Studies, Nyankpala campus, 19-year-old Salifu Nurudeen, has been sentenced to death for murdering his fellow student, Wumpini Mohammed Zakiu.
The incident occurred in September 2024 after a dispute over a woman.

3News reported that Nurudeen’s girlfriend, also a University for Development Studies student, ended her relationship with him and started dating the victim.
On September 25, 2024, Wumpini’s body was discovered with multiple stab wounds, and his phone was missing.
The police cybercrime unit later tracked the phone to Nurudeen’s location, where it was found hidden under his bed.
Investigations showed that he had sent messages from Wumpini’s phone to the deceased's girlfriend, pretending to break up, and another sent to Wumpini’s friend.
Nurudeen was eventually arrested after being lured to Jubilee Park and admitting to sending the text messages, but denied murdering the victim.
The Tamale High Court found Nurudeen guilty of murder, and he was subsequently sentenced to death.
About Wumpini Mohammed Zakiu's death
Adom News reported that Zaiku's body was found in an uncompleted building between the Citadel Hostel and Kumbung Hostel on the school's campus.
Initial reports indicated that his motorcycle and phone were missing, fueling concerns that robbers had attacked him on the premises and made off with his possessions.
Wunpini's final funeral rites were held on September 30, 2024, at Gumani around Oasis in Tamale.

Adom News reported that the fatal incident occurred while the KNUST student was returning from his birthday celebration.
Nhyira was rushed to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. He was set to begin his third year at the university at the time.

YEN.com.gh also previously reported that Joana Yabani, a fourth-year Biological Science student, was killed on campus on the morning of February 27, 2025.
Her boyfriend, Daniel Tuffour, was arrested as the main suspect. Five weeks later, she was laid to rest at the Jehovah Shammah Assemblies of God Church.
