Heavy rains have left sections of the Nsawam-Pokuase road severely flooded, disrupting traffic flow.

Morning commutes on August 6 were marred by chaos, flood waters stalling traffic.

Channel One news reported that several vehicles were submerged.

Frustrated drivers were forced to navigate through flooding, with some cars suffering mechanical issues because of water in the engines.

Eyewitnesses described the situation on the road which links Accra and the Eastern Region as dangerous and deeply frustrating.

“We’ve been stuck here for hours... some cars just died in the water. It’s not safe, and we go through this every time it rains."

Government aims to build 5,000km of roads

YEN.com.gh reported that the Minister for Roads and Highways in Ghana, Kwame Governs Agbodza, said the government plans to construct 5,000km of roads in over 160 districts across the country, where studies show the existence of unmotorable roads.

This forms part of efforts by the government to open up the country for trade and investment.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, Agbodza also confirmed the issuance of commitment authorisations by the Ministry of Finance for the construction of some road projects under the ruling National Democratic Congress' Big Push Programme.
