On August 6, 2025, a tragic helicopter crash in the Adansi District took the lives of eight individuals.

Among the victims were Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah; Environment Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, and Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, who was piloting the Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter.

The group was traveling from Accra to Obuasi to address illegal mining activities when the helicopter went off radar and crashed in a mountainous area near Brofoyedru Sikaman.

Heartbreak echoed at Dr Samuel Sarpong's residence

The crash was a devastating blow to Ghana's leadership, and the loss of Dr Sarpong, who had served as the Ashanti Regional Minister and National Vice Chairman of the NDC, left the nation in mourning.

At Dr Sarpong's Kumasi home, emotional scenes unfolded as his widow, Akyaa Sarpong, was consoled by relatives and party members.

Nigerians react to Ghana's tragic helicopter crash

YEN.com.gh had earlier reported that while Ghanaians mourned the heartbreaking loss, Nigerians took to social media to express outrage and disillusionment with their government.

Many Nigerians turned the tragedy into an outlet for political frustration.

It was reported that the Z9 helicopter, with three crew and five passengers, took off from the capital, Accra, at 09:12 am (GMT) and was heading to the town of Obuasi for an event to tackle illegal mining.
