A colleague of late Air Force Sergeant Ernest Nii Addo Mensah has stirred sadness online after opening up on his final moments before flying.

Three Ghana Air Force officers, Ernest Addo Mensah, Squadron Leader Peter Anala, and Flying Officer Manaen Twum-Ampadu, were killed in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025
They were the operating crew of a Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Z-9 helicopter that was travelling from Accra to Obuasi, transporting five high-level government officials to a conference on the fight against illegal mining (galamsey).
The flight crashed into the Sikaman Forest in the Adansi Afuokrom District of the Ashanti Region, killing all eight on board.
Aside from three military officers, the government officials killed were identified as Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Muniru, former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Samuel Sarpong, and former NDC Parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye.
Ernest Addo Mensah’s last message surfaces
In the days after his death, the last message Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah sent before his demise surfaced online.
The flight engineer shared the post to his WhatsApp status on the morning of the crash.

In the message, he reposted a quote from a man of God, Evangelist Mike Bamiloye, speaking about the urgency of settling all grudges because of life’s fleeting nature.
Social media users shared varying opinions on the message, with some claiming it was an indication that Addo Mensah was aware of his impending doom.

Addo Mensah’s colleague details final moments
In another post seen by YEN.com.gh on TikTok, a colleague of the late Sergeant Addo Mensah shared a photo of their last moment on the day he died.
She said the photo was taken just before he left to take on his duties as the engineer on the fatal flight.
“Just this morning before we dispatched you, sir. This thing has pained my heart. Eiii w)gb3j3k3. Hmmm." the colleague said.
