Haruna Iddrisu, Member of Parliament for Tamale-South, has made a promise to continue the legacy of the late Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed by sponsoring 47 medical students.

YEN.com.gh understands that this was an initiative started by the late politician.
Ibrahim Murtala, who tragically died in a military helicopter crash on August 6, had set up an education fund that supported underprivileged students pursuing medical degrees.
His passing left a void in the lives of these students, who gathered to pay tribute to him during his Third Day Funeral Rites (Adua) in Tamale.
At the ceremony, Minister Iddrisu assured the students that their education would not be interrupted and vowed to personally ensure their successful completion of their medical courses.
“I will make sure no student’s dream is cut short by this untimely loss,” he pledged at the sombre remembrance event.
Medical students pay tribute to Ibrahim Murtala
In their heartfelt tribute, the students described Dr Murtala as an unwavering advocate for education and the welfare of young people.
They called on both the government and individuals to continue supporting their academic journeys in his honour.

Prominent figures such as the Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and many others were present to honour his memory.
Their coming highlighted the sheer admiration that Dr Murtala had achieved on both sides of the political and social spectrum.

Who was the late Ibrahim Murtala?
Dr Murtala, who died alongside seven others in the helicopter crash near Sikaman in the Ashanti Region, was a dedicated public servant.
Known for his integrity, compassion, and leadership, he had served as a Deputy Minister for Information and Media Relations and Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry under President John Mahama.
He was also an alumnus of Ghana Senior High School in Tamale. His educational and political legacy continues to inspire those whose lives he touched.
With Iddrisu's pledge, many are hopeful that Dr Murtala’s work in empowering the youth through education will live on, despite his untimely passing.
Investigations into the Obuasi tragedy, which claimed the lives of three military personnel and five political figures, are still underway.
Bawumia visits Murtala Mohammed's residence to condole
