GAF Helicopter Crash: Ghanaian Government Confirms Funeral Details for Eight Victims

The government has disclosed the complete details for the funeral of the eight victims who lost their lives in a military helicopter crash in Adansi-Akrufuom.

The Presidency heard the call for a befitting state burial for the deceased and has decided to honour them on Friday, August 15, 2025.

The event is said to be a full military service carried out by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

The names of the victims who lost their lives are as follows:

1. Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed
2. Muniru Mohammed Limuna
3. Dr Edward Omane Boamah
4. Dr Samuel Sarpong
5. Samuel Aboagye
6. Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala
7. Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu
8. Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Government announces funeral details for crash victims

Stan Dogbey, the Deputy Chief of Staff, disclosed that the funeral ceremony will be in three segments while speaking at a press conference on Thursday, August 14.

According to him, the first segment would be the reading of Bible passages and the recitation of the Qur’an. The main service would be the second part, followed by the actual burial of the victims.

He said the pre-burial programme would be from 7:30 to 9:00 in the morning.

Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Vice-President, would make an appearance at 8:50, followed by President John Dramani Mahama arriving at 9:00 to commence the State service.

During the three-hour funeral ceremony, the biographies of the eight victims would be read out. The families of the victims would also be included.

Crash victims to be buried at Tse-Addo

Tributes from their widows, children, government officials, and representatives from various organisations would also be made.

After the service, the bodies of six of the victims will be taken to the military cemetery at Tse-Addo for burial, with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the victims' respective churches conducting the burial rites.

YEN.com.gh reports that, in line with Islamic customs, two of the victims, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and Muniru Mohammed Limuna, were buried on Sunday, August 10, according to Islamic customs.

Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Dogbey has also advised the public to arrive early and follow all security protocols for the event.

Helicopter crash: Western Regional chiefs hold vigil

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the Western Regional Coordinating Council and House of Chiefs had held a vigil to honour helicopter crash victims.

The event brought together security services, residents of Sekondi-Takoradi, and others who participated in the sombre vigil and candle procession.

Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, in a heartfelt tribute to the eight who had died, urged Ghanaians to honour their service and sacrifices.
