BECE 2025: Parents Slam WAEC Over Cancellation of BECE Results, Demand Urgent Answers

Some disgruntled parents in the Ashanti Region have expressed discontent with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) following its decision to withhold and cancel the results of some students over various forms of examination malpractices.
In a video sighted by YEN.com.gh on the Facebook page of Angel 102.9 FM on August 26, 2025, some guardians expressed unhappiness and interrogated the motive behind WAEC’s decision.

Parents react to BECE results cancellation
A young woman who first spoke decried WAEC’s decision, indicating that answers given by students in the BECE are likely to be similar, particularly if they got the answers from a particular teacher or were taught from a common source.
In her case, she bemoaned that the onus lies on the family to find money for their ward to re-sit the exams that had been cancelled, which also comes at a cost.
Another parent, who expressed frustration over the new development, stated that if claims that students had prior access to examination questions are to be believed, then WAEC should be held accountable.
“They claim they cancelled the exams due to ‘apor’. The issue is, where did the apor come from? These things affect us financially,” the parent lamented.

WAEC releases 2025 BECE results
Meanwhile, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
In a statement, the council said 177 students had their entire results cancelled.
Candidates from 119 schools had their subject results cancelled, whereas subject results from 87 schools have been withheld pending investigations.
WAEC warns JHS graduates over BECE fraudsters
The Ghana Education Service, in a release on August 23, 2025, warned JHS graduates who sat for the 2025 BECE not to fall prey to fraudsters promising to upgrade their results.
“The Council wishes to caution all stakeholders to be wary of fraudsters who claim they can upgrade results for a fee. Candidates should note that WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated,” the statement read in part.
The council also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service and other stakeholders for making the BECE a success.
“The Council expresses its appreciation to stakeholders, especially the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, the Security Agencies, Heads of Schools, Supervisors, Invigilators, Examiners, and all who in diverse ways supported it in the successful conduct of the examination and release of results.”

Girl cries over disappointing BECE results
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that two young Ghanaian girls could not contain their sorrow after checking their BECE results.
The duo cried out in disbelief after relatives informed them that they had failed to achieve a single-digit aggregate.
Both had obtained an aggregate of 20 during the 2024 BECE and felt disappointed after seeing their final results.
