The immigration official was reported missing days after he left his residence on July 3, 2025, to meet a friend, Bright Aweh, at Aggie’s Spot in Ashongman Estate.
Amoah allegedly went to the meeting to reclaim an amount of GH¢200,000 he had paid his supposed friend to secure employment opportunities for some individuals.
The Ghana Police Service discovered the immigration officer's badly burned body at Abuom Junction, near Kwabenya, on July 9, 2025, after days of intense searching.
Police investigations led to the arrest of Bright Aweh, after it was discovered he had arranged to meet with Stephen Amoah close to the time of his disappearance.
A second suspect was later arrested and arraigned before court on murder charges. Below is a video of the second suspect following his arrest.
Alleged details of Stephen Amoah’s murder plot
According to Ibrahim Kwarteng Oppong, the founder and Executive Director of Crime Check TV Ghana, Aweh allegedly meticulously planned the murder of his friend.
He alleged that on the day of the incident, Aweh ensured his wife was out of the house and also attempted to prevent a neighbour from returning home early from work.
“Bright allegedly manipulated events to ensure his wife and his co-tenant left the house to ensure privacy to allow him commit the crime. Bright, the prime suspect is said to have also informed his upstairs neighbour who was preparing to leave for work that he should not come home early because he will be fumigating the house due to a 'funny smell' in the compound.” Kwarteng reported.

He added that Bright also attempted to get a neighbour who had a CCTV camera facing his home to remove the equipment, allowing him free rein to commit the alleged crime.
“When the neighbour offered to contribute to the cost of fumigation chemicals, Bright declined, insisting he would handle it himself. The source further indicated that Bright also confronted a neighbour about why his CCTV was facing his compound. The neighbour is said to have told him the camera was faulty, but later installed a 360 CCTV, which captured three motorbikes that entered the house before Stephen Amoah arrived. The purpose of the motorbikes remain unknown.”
