President Mahama's Gov't to Construct 5,000km of Roads in Over 160 Districts
- Kwame Governs Agbodza has said that the government will build 5,000km of roads in over 160 districts across Ghana
- The project aims to improve trade and investment under John Mahama's Big Push Programme
- Abandoned roads from Akufo-Addo’s era will also be completed with new Finance Ministry authorisations

The Minister for Roads and Highways in Ghana, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has disclosed that the government will construct 5,000km of roads in over 160 districts across the country where studies show the existence of unmotorable roads.
This forms part of efforts by the government led by President John Mahama to open up the country for trade and investment.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, Mr Agbodza also confirmed the issuance of commitment authorisations by the Ministry of Finance for the construction of some road projects under the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC)'s Big Push Programme.

Again, under the NDC's Big Push Programme, the Roads and Highways Minister stated that some road projects abandoned by the erstwhile Nana Akufo-Addo administration due to a lack of dedicated funding will be completed.

- Rehabilitation and Upgrading of Kasoa - Winneba Road
- Rehabilitation of Ofankor – Nsawam Road (Dual Carriageway)
- Dualization of Takoradi – Agona Junction Road
- Construction of Suame Interchange and Local Roads
- Construction of National Route N18: Wa - Han Road
- Upgrading of Tumu - Chuchuliga - Navrongo including construction of 36m span reinforced concrete bridge over Kanyibie River and 24m span reinforced concrete bridge over Bechelihu river
- Reconstruction of Navrongo - Chuchuliga - Sandema Road

Road projects captured in mid-year budget
In a related development, YEN.com.gh reported that the government planned to work on road infrastructure projects over the next three years in 166 constituencies.

Minister of Finance Dr Cassiel Ato Forson also stated that some priority road projects which had stalled would receive funding.
Forson said the government intended to rehabilitate 10km of roads annually in each of these constituencies.
