The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has confirmed that the eight bodies have been retrieved from the scene of the helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

A devastating military helicopter crash, which occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, Ghana, resulted in the death of three crew members and two Ministers of State.

Ghana's Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Ibrahim Muntala Mohammed, and several others have been confirmed dead.

Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Muniru, Former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Samuel Sarpong, Former NDC Parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye, also perished in the helicopter crash.

The crew members who also lost their lives are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

This unfortunate incident was confirmed at an emergency press conference by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, at the Jubilee House, Ghana's seat of government.government.

How the helicopter crash happen

The helicopter was en route to Obuasi when contact was lost shortly after taking off from Accra at 9:12 a.m.

A statement released by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) indicates that the helicopter had three crew members and five passengers on board.

While there are initial reports of some passengers being burnt, the GAF has not confirmed any fatalities.

GAF said efforts are underway to establish contact with the missing helicopter and determine the cause of the helicopter crash.

The GAF has assured the public that they are working to secure the site and investigate the incident.

Vice president lead delegation to victims' family

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama, who is said to have been devastated by the tragic news, has dispatched teams to the family homes of the victims to officially inform them of the passing of their beloved relatives.

The Vice President of Ghana, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, led a high-profile delegation to the family house of Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Muniru in Accra.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), also led another team to the family home of Dr Edward Omane Boamah in the Eastern Region.

YEN.com.gh reported earlier, that a Ghanaian man, Abeku Adams Ekumfi, had predicted this national tragedy in a Facebook post made just days before the crash.
