Former Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kufuor paid a heartfelt visit to the President John Mahama's private residence to mourn with him following the death of eight individuals in the helicopter crash.

The former head of state made this gesture of solidarity and statesmanship on Friday, August 8, 2025, to offer his condolences following the tragic helicopter crash that occurred at Adansi Obuasi.

During the visit, former President Kufuor met with President Mahama, Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, First Lady Lordina Mahama, and other senior government officials.

He expressed his heartfelt sympathies and support during this difficult time of national tragedy.

Pictures of Mr Kufuor's visit to President Mahama's residence, were shared on social media by Professor Opoku-Agyemang.

In the caption accompanying the photos, the Vice President expressed gratitude to the former Ghanaian Head of State for his support.

"In a gesture of solidarity and statesmanship, former President John Agyekum Kufuor paid a visit to President John Dramani Mahama and the First Lady, Lordina Mahama, at their residence to express his condolences and support during this difficult time. I joined them and other government officials to receive him and thank him for his thoughtful gesture," she wrote.

President Mahama declares three days of mourning

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has declared three days of national mourning to honour those who lost their lives in the tragic incident.

A statement issued on Thursday, August 7, 2025, by the Minister of State for Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed that the memorial activities would begin with a flower-laying and candle-lighting ceremony.

According to Mr Ofosu, this solemn tribute will take place at the Ceremonial Garden in front of Jubilee House at 1:00 PM on Thursday, as indicated by the Minister.

The flower-laying and candle-lighting will continue on Friday, August 8, 2025, allowing more citizens to express their condolences.

The three days of mourning will conclude on Saturday, August 9, 2025, with an 'Evening of Reflections and Memorials' event at 5:00 PM at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.

The death of the eight victims of the helicopter crash has had people questioning why good people die so young.

But speaking to YEN.com.gh, Apostle Eric Okai, senior pastor of the Elim Church in Accra, stated that only God can explain such occurrences.

"Good people dying so young is a mystery that no man on earth can unravel. Spiritually, it is believed that those who die young have finished their work on earth," he said.

Vice President pens an emotional tribute to victims

In a related development, YEN.com.gh reported that Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, expressed deep sorrow over the helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.

In her tribute shared on social media, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who made history as Ghana’s first female Vice President, described the deceased as dedicated sons of the land who had served the country diligently.

She further extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, praying that the Almighty would grant them comfort and strength during this difficult time.
