In a statement released on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, the Ghana Police Service explained that Sir Obama's arrest was part of an ongoing intelligence-led operation aimed at dismantling networks involved in the illegal possession and display of sophisticated weapons.
According to the police, the intelligence-led operation, ongoing for several weeks, has led to the retrieval of a substantial number of illegal arms and ammunition.
For Fante Comedy, Yayra Abiwu, and Emmanuel Kwakye, the police said they were arrested to assist in ongoing investigations into cases of death threats and the publication of false news following the recent helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight people.
Yayra Abiwu, Fante Comedy, and a UK-based lady, known on social media as Akua Jollof, allegedly threatened to murder President Mahama and his wife, Mrs. Lordina Mahama, during a live TikTok session.
"The Police Service reiterates its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens by rooting out criminal elements and preventing the proliferation of illegal arms," the police said.
"We urge the public to continue providing credible information to assist us in these crucial operations. Further updates will be provided as investigations progress, strictly adhering to due process," they added.

AFFA demands Sir Obama's release
Meanwhile, a group calling itself the Alliance for Footsoldiers Advocacy (AFFA) has demanded the immediate release of Sir Obama Pokuase.
The group, in a statement, described the arrest as unlawful and politically motivated, aiming to silence critical voices against the ruling government.
"AFFA views this as part of a growing and dangerous culture of silence being reintroduced, frightening citizens into submission, and eroding the freedoms enshrined in our Constitution," they said.
"We wish to remind President John Dramani Mahama and his government that Ghana is a democratic state governed by the rule of law, not a dictatorship where dissenting voices are shut down. Freedom of speech, association, and political expression are non-negotiable rights that no administration has the mandate to trample upon," he added.
