The eldest daughter of the late NDC politician Samuel Aboagye broke down in tears as she paid tribute to him at his funeral.

A state funeral was held for the eight victims of the Obuasi helicopter crash at the Black Star Square in Accra on Friday, August 15.

Prominent Ghanaians from all sectors and industries were invited to appear in honour of the fallen heroes, who died in a tragic helicopter crash near Obuasi on August 6.

The eight were travelling to the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP), an initiative in the fight against illegal mining, also known as galamsey.

They died when the helicopter crashed into the Sikaman Forest in the Adansi Afuokrom District of the Ashanti Region.

The former National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye, who died in the crash, was survived by a wife and two daughters.

The tribute, which was written by his elder daughter and read on their behalf, shared fond memories of their father.

Aboagye’s daughter noted that he always fulfilled their wishes and was a loving father.

She painfully recalled that his death occurred just a day after her birthday on August 5, and that he would now miss her little sister’s upcoming birthday in September.

The emotional tribute left both Aboagye’s wife and daughter in tears, while the youngest daughter looked sad.

Samuel Aboagye's wife recalls last message

During an emotional tribute delivered by his wife, Abigail Salami, she was similarly overwhelmed with emotions as she recalled their best times.

She recalled a heartwarming birthday message Aboagye sent to her on August 1, just a week before his tragic death in the Z-9 crash.

"Happy birthday, my love. You're not only my wife but my best friend. The greatest blessing in my life. I thank God every day for you. I look forward to creating more beautiful memories together. Enjoy your day. I love you forever." the birthday message read.

Abigail also recalled a message he sent her before the tragic crash occurred.

"Take care, babe. I love you." Samuel Aboagye's last message to his wife read.
