Ralph Vs Ridge Hospital: Committee Found No Evidence to Support Dislocated Shoulder Claims by Nurse

A committee established by Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to investigate an alleged assault on Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, a rotation nurse at Ridge Hospital, by social media activist Ralph St. Williams, has submitted its findings.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the Chairman of the Ridge Hospital Assault Investigative Committee, Dr Lawrence Ofori-Boadu, said investigations conducted did not find any medical evidence to confirm that Ms Bortei sustained a dislocated shoulder as a result of the alleged assault.

Dr Lawrence Ofori-Boadu stated that the nurse reported her injuries a day after the alleged assault, which occurred on August 18, 2025.

However, medical records indicated there were no fractures in her left wrist or dislocation in her right shoulder joint.
The report added that she received treatment, was given pain relief medicine, and was advised to take bed rest.
Psychological support care was also provided following the incident, according to finding from the investigative committee.
"The committee also visited the nurse in question, the rotation nurse, Ms. Tsotsoo Rejoice, who was alleged to have been physically attacked and was receiving care at the hospital. When the committee visited, indeed, we saw the patient in bed. The document available to us, from the medical record, had no indication of fracture or dislocation of the said staff, and she has received some. psychological support as well," he said
"The committee was able to chance on the specialist who also attended to her at the ward at the time we visited, and at that time, the staff had been discharged to go home and come fot review, he added.

Committee report contradicts nurse’s assault claim
The committee was set up following an incident involving Ralph St. Williams and nurses at the emergency unit of Ridge Hospital, also known as the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
A viral video showed Ralph St. Williams in a heated altercation with nurses at the facility.
He was heard accusing them of neglecting a patient he had brought in for emergency treatment.
According to hospital management, the commotion caused by Ralph St. Williams and the group accompanying him resulted in Rejoice Tsotso Bortei sustaining an injury and losing her phone.
In response, Mintah Akandoh ordered the formation of a committee to probe the incident, which sparked strong criticism from professional associations and the general public.
However, the committee's final report contradicted the nurse’s claim that she suffered a dislocation as a result of the altercation.

Health Minister vows to implement findings
The committee also made some recommendations for the immediate attention of the Health Ministry, which included beefing up security at emergency wards and retooling hospitals across the country.

After receiving the committee's findings, the Health Minister assured the public of the full implementation of the committee’s recommendations.
"We have done this because we assured the people of this country that when the committee completes its work, we would make its findings available to the public. At this point, we have done that, and I can assure the public that we will see to the full implementation of the recommendations. I can already hear far-reaching recommendations, even beyond Ridge Hospital," he said.

Ridge Hospital nurse sues Ralph St. Williams
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported that Ralph St. Williams was served with a writ of summons after Rejoice Tsotso Bortei took legal action against him.
According to documents that circulated on social media, Rejoice stated that she was suing him for GH¢7 million over assault and defamation.
Many people weighed in on the incident, with some analysing the trending video and sharing their opinions, while others offered her advice.
