Ghana football has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of PAC Academy General Manager, Stephen Appiah.
Sources confirmed to YEN.com.gh’s Gariba Raubil that the respected Ghana Division One League (DOL) administrator died on Wednesday night, August 27, 2025, at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi following a short illness.

His death has shocked the local football community, which has described the development as a huge loss to the Division One League.
Stephen Appiah earned a reputation as a hardworking and visionary leader at PAC Academy. Under his watch, the club built a strong foundation in youth development and established itself as a competitive force in Ghana’s second-tier league.

Inusah Ahmed's scam case
Appiah’s death comes at a time when PAC Academy has been in the headlines for troubling reasons. Earlier this month, the club’s owner, Inusah Ahmed, and two others were extradited to the United States to face charges in an alleged $100 million fraud scheme.
On Friday, August 8, 2025, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that three Ghanaian nationals had been transferred to the U.S. to answer allegations of participating in a transnational criminal network.
Prosecutors accuse the syndicate of operating romance scams and business email compromise schemes that defrauded victims of over $100 million. This amount translates to more than GHC 1 billion at current exchange rates as of August 9, 2025.
The sudden demise of Stephen Appiah leaves PAC Academy without its top administrator at a critical moment. The club must now navigate leadership changes while addressing the fallout from the extradition of its owner, who owns a lavish mansion in Offinso, Kumasi.
